GUWAHATI: With the celebration of Uruka, the eve of Magh Bihu, Uzanbazar Fish Market witnessed high demand for locally sourced fish. Among the highlights of the day was a giant Bhokuwa fish, weighing 22 kg, which was sold for ₹15,000.

Talking to GPlus, a member of the Uzanbazar Fish Market Committee said, "The biggest fish sold today was a 22 kg Bhokuwa, priced at Rs 15,000. It came all the way from Goalpara."
As fish holds a central place in the Bihu feast, markets across the city saw brisk sales, with both buyers and sellers engaged in lively negotiations. Customers thronged markets early in the morning to grab the freshest catch, ensuring a grand feast for the festive night. Similarly, other delicacies are also in high demand such as chicken, mutton, duck, sunga, with even turkeys thronging Guwahati markets.
