2018 has been an eventful year for Assam. The state has seen a lot of ups and downs and witnessed the brutal killing of two men at Karbi Anglong, and at the same time also saw Hima Das rise as a sports star in her own right. The much-awaited first draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published with the names of 1.9 crore people out of the 3.29 crore total applicants in Assam recognizing them as legal Citizens of India. This was announced in a press conference at the intervening night of December 31 and January 1.
