10 New Moth Species Discovered In Arunachal Pradesh

GUWAHATI: In a new development in biodiversity conservation, Tropical Lepidoptera Research has reported the discovery of 10 new moth species in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, marking a significant milestone for India's biodiversity.

This remarkable find is attributed to the dedicated efforts of community-led conservation initiatives headed by the Titli Trust-Royal Enfield project for Responsible Tourism.

The discovery emphasises the rich biodiversity of the region and its status as a important hotspot for wildlife.

Among the new species documented are the Dark Freak, Blue-bordered Sergeant, Elusive Prince, Brown Gorgon, Yellow Gorgon, Margined Hedge Blue, and Khaki Silverline, among others.

This discovery not only highlights the importance of continued conservation efforts but also opens doors for the inaugural Siang Biodiversity Meet, scheduled from May 12 to 18, 2024, at Gobuk and Ramsing villages in the Upper Siang district.
