GUWAHATI: The Bongaigaon police have given Zubeen Garg full security during his Bihu performances after the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AAKRASU) demanded an apology from the singer for alleged statements made about Koch Rajbongshi.
Speaking to the media, Bongaigaon District Superintendent of Police Swapnanil Deka stated that AAKRASU, which had demanded that Zubeen Garg's event be cancelled, was urged to drop their demands and that the security element would be fully monitored by the police in every way, as per media reports.
Zubeen Garg is scheduled to perform at Gandhi Maidan in Bongaigaon on April 16 as part of the major Rongali Bihu celebration.
The singer was asked not to perform at the cultural event by the All Koch Rajbonshi Students' Union (AKRASU).
''We will not allow him (Zubeen Garg) to perform in Bongaigaon or anywhere else in the state till and unless he apologises for his reported comment on a breakaway state of 'Kamatapur,'' an AAKRASU member informed the reporters.
''We have learned that he will perform at Bongaigaon Gandhi Maidan. We would want to recommend that the organisers inform Zubeen Garg that he must apologise or we will not allow him to perform,'' he added.
