GUWAHATI: An elderly woman was allegedly tortured and thrown into the Dhing River by a group of people over witchcraft allegations on Monday, March 10, in the Ghoramara area.

The victim was accused by locals of practicing witchcraft, which led to the horrific act. She was found in critical condition near the river by police, who immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In response to the incident, Dibrugarh police, led by the Assistant Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), swiftly launched an investigation. Authorities have arrested several suspects, including Binod Sanga and Suraj Sanga, along with five other women believed to be involved in the crime.
The police are ensuring that all those responsible face strict legal action. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured the public that justice will be pursued.
