Woman Stabbed To Death Near Guwahati's Last Gate; Assailant Stabs Self, Detained

 

GUWAHATI: The assailant of the woman who was allegedly stabbed to death near Naharani Path in the Last Gate area on Thursday, 26 December has stabbed himself.  The individual has now been hospitalised.

The victim, identified as Mousumi Gogoi, was reportedly waiting for a bike taxi service when the attack occurred. Eyewitnesses described the assault as sudden and said Gogoi sustained critical injuries. She was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where she was declared dead at approximately 12:45 PM.  

Assam DGP GP Singh confirmed that the attacker has been taken to a hospital after the individual stabbed himself.

Speaking to GPlus, an official from Hatigaon Police Station also stated, "We were informed about the incident this morning. A team has been sent to carry out further investigation."  

Authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the area and collected witness testimonies to determine the motive and identify the suspect.  

Also speaking to the media, IGP Partha Sarathi Mahanta provided further insights into the case, stating, “The girl was staying here as a tenant from the last month. She was working in an NGO, and accordingly, she was heading to her workplace today at around 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Meanwhile, an individual stabbed her brutally, following which she was rushed to GMCH. The police have begun their investigation, and a special team has been appointed to investigate the matter. The killer was tracked and nabbed. He also tried to commit suicide and inflicted self-harm. He has been taken to the hospital. The youth had tried to build a relationship with the girl, which she desperately denied. The youth harassed her for building the relationship. The youth, identified as Bhupen Das, is from Nalbari.”

Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
