GUWAHATI: In a crackdown on the narcotics trade, a raid was conducted on Saturday, April 19 in Sawkuchi by personnel of Basistha Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector Kapil Pathak. The operation resulted in the apprehension of a woman drug peddler and the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected heroin.
The accused, identified as Sajida Begum (32), a native of Algapur in Hailakandi district, was apprehended during the operation. Police recovered four soap boxes and thirteen plastic packets containing suspected heroin, weighing a total of 278.38 grams (excluding the weight of the soap boxes). Additionally, a mobile phone and cash amounting to ₹1,49,500 were seized from her possession.
Acting on further intelligence, the police conducted a subsequent search of her rented accommodation at Datalpara, Natun Basti, under the jurisdiction of Fatasil Ambari police station. The search yielded 1800 empty vials and 100 empty soap boxes, commonly used for packaging and distributing narcotics.
Authorities have registered a case and initiated further investigations to determine the extent of her network and any possible links to larger drug syndicates operating in the state.
The apprehended individual remains in custody and is expected to be produced before the court soon.
