GUWAHATI: In a recent incident, a woman was attacked by some miscreants with an acid-like substance in Fatasil Ambari area of Guwahati.

Following the attack, a part of her leg got burnt.

In a Facebook post, the victim narrated the incident and explained how she got caught in an "acid attack." She has also cautioned all girls and women to be careful while walking on the streets.

Her Facebook post read: “Yesterday an incident took place that literally shocked me. Someone threw acid on me. But luckily that didn’t harm me much. But a small part of my leg was burnt so to the girls out there please stay alert. When you are walking by the road keep an eye on others. And moreover, I am shocked because I have no enemies. I never thought this would happen to me. Concentrate more on others rather than mobile phones - be alert and stay alert."

On being contacted by G Plus, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Deepak Kumar, while confirming the incident however clarified, "Upon medical examination, it was found that the substance thrown on the woman wasn't acid. Instead, it was a gum type substance that sticks to the skin and harms it."

The 25-year-old victim works as a teacher in the city. She encountered the incident at around 8 p.m. on June 1, Saturday.

However, no case had been registered in this regard till the time of filing of this report.

The Commissioner further added that while no case of acid attack has been recorded in the city in recent times, this incident raises concerns that miscreants might be using such novel tactics to target citizens only to mug them. It might as well have been a case of personal rivalry with the victim, he added.
