In an exclusive interview with G Plus, Assam state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that it is 'not possible' to physically deport the 15-20 lakh illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from Assam.

While citing the reason, the minister said that "There is no treaty between India and Bangladesh."

According to the process, these immigrants will now be given a chance to appeal against the judgment of the NRC authorities, in the Supreme Court. Following that, the Bangladesh home address of the immigrants would have to be documented and sent to the Bangladesh government, who will then verify the inputs on the basis of their judicial process. If the Bangladesh government is convinced after the entire documentation process, they will take back the immigrants. In the words of the minister, the whole deportation process highly depends on the convincing capacity of the Indian government to push back the immigrants.

However, once the final list is revealed, the names of the detected immigrants will immediately be removed from the voter list and they will be exempted from all government facilities and govt jobs. "When you close doors for these people, they will automatically start moving out of the state. But it is not possible for us to legally send them to any other place, without fulfilling all legal requirements." Himanta added.

"India is a country which has a very good track record of human rights, which is why it is difficult to deprive these people of health, education and the minimum basic needs."
