GUWAHATI: A wild elephant reportedly attacked an elderly couple, resulting in the death of the 65-year-old woman and severe injuries to her husband in Bongaon village under the Raimona Western Forest Range on February 13, Thursday.

The attack reportedly took place around 3:30 AM when the elephant strayed out of Raimona National Park. The deceased, identified as Chatyavati Basumatary, lost her life, while her husband, Chatrosingh Basumatary, sustained critical injuries while trying to drive the animal away. He has been hospitalised for treatment, as per reports.
In addition to the human casualties, the elephant also reportedly killed a cow belonging to a local resident, Samiel Tudu.
The growing human-wildlife conflict in the region continues to be a major concern, with wild elephants frequently entering settlements in search of food, leading to casualties and property destruction. Forest officials have been informed, and local authorities are now closely monitoring the situation.
