Three Girls Rescued From Child Marriage In Assam’s Morigaon

 

GUWAHATI: Morigaon’s Child Helpline Unit, in collaboration with Mikirbheta Police Station and Boribozar Outpost police officials, rescued three minor girls following a tip-off received through the 1098 helpline on Wednesday, February 12.

Among the three, two were found to be married, while the third had fled before her wedding could take place. The rescued girls have been placed in temporary shelter in Morigaon as authorities await further directives from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

An official from the Child Helpline Unit told GPlus, “Upon receiving information through the 1098 helpline, we took immediate action with police assistance and successfully rescued three minor girls on Wednesday. One of them had managed to escape before her marriage, while the other two were already married. An investigation is currently underway, and we are awaiting further instructions from the Child Welfare Committee, Morigaon.”
