WHO Warns of Sporadic COVID-19 Outbreak as India Nears 60,000 Mark

GUWAHATI: With coronavirus cases in India rapidly approaching the 60,000 mark, World Health Organization issued a cautionary warning of scattered outbreaks throughout the country once lockdown is lifted.

Despite acting quickly on the entire COVID-19 situation, the pandemic is speculated to reach its peak by the end of July as per the World Health Organization’s special COVID-19 special representative Dr. David Nabarro.

“There will be sporadic outbreaks over time immediately after the lockdown. Thereon, the outbreaks will be contained. I agree with the timing. Around July-end, there will be a flat peak but it will get better,” he said. India is expected to experience an outburst of cases when the lockdown is lifted in the coming months but it will also be contained pretty soon.

Further, the envoy lauded the efforts taken by the country for it’s timely lockdown measures which had a big role to play in containment of the deadly virus.

The country reported more than 3,300 cases and 95 deaths in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of deaths up to 1,981 as per data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
