GUWAHATI: A team of West Bengal Police has reached Dibrugarh in Assam to exhume the body of Faizan Ahmed, a student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
The Calcutta High Court issued an order directing the exhumation of Faizan's body from a burial ground in Dibrugarh town to conduct a second post-mortem at the Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
According to reports, a four-member team of police officers from Kharagpur, West Bengal, has arrived in Dibrugarh to carry out the court's order.
Faizan Ahmed, a third-year mechanical engineering student at IIT Kharagpur, was found in a partially decomposed state in his hostel room on October 14, 2022.
While the college administration initially stated that the student died by suicide, Faizan's family has consistently claimed that he was a victim of foul play, as per reports.
Acting upon their allegations, Faizan's parents filed a writ petition in the Calcutta High Court, seeking justice for their son and demanding a thorough investigation into his death.
In response to the petition, the Calcutta High Court ordered the exhumation of Faizan's body to conduct a fresh post-mortem examination at the Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, as per reports.
The purpose of this second post-mortem is to gather additional evidence and shed further light on the circumstances surrounding Faizan's untimely demise.
Faizan Ahmed hailed from Tinsukia in Assam, and his body was laid to rest at the Amolapatty Kabarstan (burial ground) in Dibrugarh town.
