The colourful and grand procession lasted for over three days, with Lachit Ghat witnessing 29 immersions of Durga on 12th, and 123 on 13th. Sawkuchi Ghat was assigned for 4 and 29 immersions on either date respectively, while Basistha Ghat saw 5 and 11 immersions.

Farewell for the goddess continued to prevail on Monday, October 14, as Pandu Ghat was finally assigned to manage 11 immersions.

The immersion process was filled with music, dance, and cultural performances of the highest fervour. It saw a massive turnout from several Durga Puja pandals, as people lined the streets to witness the beautifully decorated floats and idols.

Traditional dance and musical performances added to the festive atmosphere, while a few visarjan committees were also reported to have played non-devotional songs along the procession route, despite prior restrictions via official orders.

Thus, the immersion of Durga’s idols in the Brahmaputra marked an epic conclusion of this year’s Durga Puja festivities for 2024. All bisarjan processes saw little to no inconvenient incidents, as people stuck to the austerity of this peaceful and joyous occasion, reflecting in the austerity of their deep cultural heritage and strong religious faith.
