Violet Baruah Appointed As First Female IGP Of Assam Police

GUWAHATI: IPS officer Violet Baruah becomes the first female Inspector General of Assam Police.

Baruah, along with eight other top senior police officials of the State has been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Monday, December 27, and the promotion will be effective from January 1, 2022. 

Announcing her promotion IPS officer Baruah wrote on her Twitter handle, "Promoted to the rank of IGP. Feeling blessed to be the first lady IGP in the state of Assam".

Violet Baruah is also the first female Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Assam and the first DIG of the Bodoland Territorial Region after the post was created following the Bodo Accord. 

She was conferred the President's Medal for her distinguished service on the 72nd Republic Day, 2021. 

The other senior officials of Assam Police to receive a promotion to the post of IGP are Anand Prakash Tiwari, Diganta Barah, Lachit Barua, Deboraj Upadhaya, Mridulananda Sarma, Dilip Kumar Dey, Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, and Nitul Gogoi.
