GUWAHATI: The cultural tapestry of Nalbari is set to display vibrant hues and religious fervour as the town prepares for the inaugural ceremony of the Raas Mahotsav on November 26, 2023.
Nitish Bharadwaj, acclaimed for his portrayal of Lord Krishna in BR Chopra's iconic television series Mahabharat, will be gracing the occasion.
The distinguished actor has been extended an invitation by the Minister of Public Health Engineering, Skill Development Employment & Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Jayanta Mallabaruah and the Raas committee to participate in the ceremony, which will unfold at the revered Hari Mandir in Nalbari.
The Raas Mahotsav or the Raas Lila festival, is a revered tradition performed on the full moon day (Purnima) in the months of October-November (Kati-Aghun) during the autumn season.
The festival holds deep cultural roots and is a testament to the rich heritage of the region. While the exact origins of Raas Lila in Majuli, as a performing festival, remain uncertain, it has become a cherished and eagerly anticipated event.
The festival however was first observed in the year 1933 and this year will mark the 90th Raas Mahotsav in the region.
Apart from the local artists, guest artists from several other states will also come and perform during the festival at the temple complex.
Last year, BJP MP and renowned actress Hema Malini graced the Raas celebrations at the famous Hari Mandir of Nalbari.
