GUWAHATI: Assam Police filed an FIR on Monday, February 10, against five YouTubers and social media influencers for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on the online show India’s Got Latent. The development has arrived after the FIR was lodged in Guwahati Crime Branch by Alok Boruah of Nayanpur.

This was affirmed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who announced the criminal charges on X.
“Guwahati Crime Branch has registered a case vide Cyber PS case no 03/2025 under sections - 79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023 read with Sec 67 of IT Act, 2000, read with Section 4/7 of Cinematograph Act 1952, read with Section 4/6 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986,” Sarma stated. “Investigation is currently underway.”
Authorities registered cases against Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina under multiple legal provisions.
The legal action follows public outrage over inappropriate remarks made during the show, particularly a question posed by Ranveer Allahbadia to a contestant regarding their parents. Critics accused the show of deliberately using vulgar content for financial gain.
The controversy has also sparked political reactions, with Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s past endorsements of social media influencers. "The Prime Minister of India must be expected to be more responsible," he stated.
Meanwhile, Allahbadia has apologised, admitting his comment was inappropriate.
Guwahati Police registered the case under Cyber PS Case No. 03/2025, invoking multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 79, 95, 294, and 296. Additionally, the case includes charges under Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, Sections 4 and 7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and Sections 4 and 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
