GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a crucial meeting with senior civil and police officials to discuss the transformation of Village Defence Parties (VDPs) into model social organisations on Thursday, January 9.

During the meeting, key decisions were taken to reorganise the VDPs, with a focus on establishing one in each revenue village across the state to improve the structure and functioning of these entities with a goal of at least 30% women members in each VDP.
Additionally, training will be provided to empower the members of VDPs, equip them with skills necessary for both civil and police roles.
