Two mountain climbers from Assam successfully scale Mt Kilimanjaro

GUWAHATI: Two mountain climbers from Assam have been successful in scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing mountain in the world and the tallest peak in Africa.

Beating all physical and mental hardships, Shashi Prakash Roy and Chandan Das were successful in completing the challenging summit which is around 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) from its base, and 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above the sea level.

The weather conditions were also a major challenge for the duo as the temperature was close to -20 degrees Celsius.  

In a moment of pride for the state, they also fluttered the Assamese gamocha at the top of the mountain.    

Both Roy and Das are based in Guwahati and are businessmen. They undertook the ardours journey in May.
