The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in collaboration with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, New Delhi is organising a two day State Level Workshop for Police and other stakeholders on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The programme which is being held in Administrative Staff College Khanapara from 15-16 February 2017 is organised with the prime objective of sensitising stakeholders of the Police for their better understanding of child Rights and the laws governing the child protection machinery.
Dr. Sunita Changkakati, Hon'ble Chairperson, ASCPCR delivering her welcome address mentioned that the need for conducting the two day workshop is because of is because of the recent development in the laws, schemes and policies relating to child protection and development.
Inspector General of Police Surendra Kumar, IPS, CID Assam stated in his speech that it is through one's right attitude with which change can be brought about in addressing the concerns of protection of Child Rights. He urged upon the police participants to treat cases involving children with care and a positive attitude. While he acknowledged the shortage of manpower of the police force, he still motivated the participants to take one step at a time and do whatever little is possible in their capacity to ensure care and protection for children.
The two day long workshop would focus on various aspects of capacity building, overall scenario of child protection and role of police department towards the same, moral responsibility, challenges and issues pertaining to protection of the rights of children.
