GUWAHATI: Assam’s Jengrai Gram Panchayat and Bebejia Demow Bangthai Gram Panchayat have been selected for prestigious honours at the National Panchayat Awards 2024.

Organised by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, these awards will be conferred on Wednesday, 11 December, by President Droupadi Murmu, during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The Jengrai Gram Panchayat in Majuli district will receive the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar in the category of child-friendly panchayats. The award includes a cash prize of ₹1 crore, recognising the panchayat’s efforts toward ensuring a nurturing environment for children.
Similarly, the Bebejia Demow Bangthai Gram Panchayat in Nagaon district has been selected for the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar, which comes with a prize of ₹1.25 crore. It has been adjudged the best gram panchayat for its contributions to sustainable and inclusive development.
The National Panchayat Awards aim to recognise and promote various types of work by panchayats across the country in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, a total of 45 panchayats will be honoured.
