TV Series On Assam’s Legendary Warrior Lachit Borphukan Announced

 

GUWAHATI: The production and telecast of a 52-episode television series on the legendary Ahom warrior, Lachit Borphukan has been announced by Prasar Bharati, in collaboration with the Government of Assam.

The series, which aims to bring the valour and legacy of Lachit Borphukan to a nationwide audience, will be broadcast across Prasar Bharati's extensive platforms, including Akashvani, Doordarshan, and its digital arm, Prasar Bharati News Services (PBNS).

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalising this collaboration was signed on August 12 between Meenakshi Das Nath, ACS, Director of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, and Amit Kumar, Deputy Director General (Content Sourcing) Prasar Bharati. The signing ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Kanchan Prasad, Director General of Doordarshan.

Other notable attendees included Bimal Bora, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Assam, B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, IAS, Principal Secretary, Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Assam, and Ankur Lahoty, Deputy Director, DDK, Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the initiative as a historic moment for Assam. He emphasised that this is the first time the Government of Assam has partnered with Prasar Bharati to produce a documentary on the iconic figure of Lachit Borphukan. "This documentary will be broadcast nationwide, allowing the legacy of Lachit Borphukan to reach a wider audience," he stated.

The Chief Minister also urged the Prasar Bharati team to approach the portrayal of Lachit Borphukan's life with sensitivity and accuracy. He stressed the importance of honoring Assam's history and culture through this production, ensuring that the documentary respects the sentiments of the people of Assam.
