Orunodoi 3.0 Launched In Assam, Expands Coverage To 37.2 L Beneficiaries

 

The Assam government launched the third edition of its flagship poverty alleviation scheme 'Orunodoi 3.0' on Thursday, September 19, expanding its reach to 37.2 lakh beneficiaries.

This marks an increase of 12.5 lakh new recipients compared to the previous edition, turning it into the largest state-run Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiative in Assam.

"Today is a historic day as we are expanding this scheme," Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted a video of the same on X. “Orunodoi 3.0 to include over 12 lakh addl women.”

The chief minister inaugurated the distribution of Orunodoi Cards to new beneficiaries during a programme in Guwahati. Under 'Orunodoi 3.0', women from low-income families will receive a montly remuneration of Rs 1,250, which the government will directly deposit into their bank accounts on the 10th day of each month.

The district administration also plans to carefully select new beneficiaries, ensuring that eligible recipients from previous editions are not excluded unless they no longer meet the updated criteria.

The Orunodoi scheme was first launched on December 1, 2020, as it aimed to empower women by providing financial assistance to poor households. A second edition followed on December 14, 2022, to expand the number of beneficiaries.

With Orunodoi 3.0, the Assam government aims to further alleviate poverty by covering financial security for most women across the state.
