GUWAHATI: Three people were arrested for their alleged involvement in assaulting a youth on Malaybari Road in Khetri, Sonapur sub-division on December 4. Out of the three, two were minors.
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Bitu Talukdar.
The incident transpired as Talukdar was returning home around midnight when a verbal altercation erupted with Chandan Kathar (21) and two other individuals over a contentious issue.
Speaking to GPlus, a police official from Khetri Police Station stated, "Four people were involved in a verbal exchange over the phone regarding Ras Mela held at Malaybari area in Khetri on December 1."
The incident came to light when a video capturing the assault went viral on social media platforms.
Subsequently, the victim's family lodged a formal complaint at the Khetri Police Station, prompting action from law enforcement.
The police official further added, "The victim is undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and is in critical condition."
