A bench of Justices Abhay Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan recorded the state government’s statement, noting that the 13 individuals were deported based on documents annexed to the affidavit. This development came after the court had earlier, on February 4, questioned the delay in deporting 63 individuals whose nationality had already been confirmed.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the court that the verification process for the remaining detainees is ongoing with the Bangladeshi High Commission.
According to the affidavit, nationality status verification (NSV) forms for most detainees were sent to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on February 14, with reminders issued on the same day. The deportation of the 13 individuals was documented through a formal handing-over note.
The court further directed the Assam government to file another affidavit by April 30, detailing the status of NSVs and any further deportations. The matter is scheduled for the next hearing on May 6.
