Third phase of Gunotsav sees marked improvement in schools scoring high grade

The third phase of Gunotsav was held from January 3 to 6 this year in which 11,74,995 students participated from 17869 schools of the State. The initiative was held in the districts of Goalpara, Majuli, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Baksa, Nalbari, Dhubri, South Salmara, Karimganj, Hojai and West Karbi Anglong.

Under this phase, 3575 schools (20%) scored A+ as compared to 1672 (9%) in the second phase and 777 (6%) schools in the first.

Further, during the first phase 19% (2323 schools) scored A grade, while this number was 29% (5480 schools) in the second phase and saw a significant rise to become 40% (7063) in third phase.     

Additionally, 2278 schools (23%) scored B grade in the first phase which declined to 1974 schools (10%) in the second phase. During this phase, it further reduced to 520 schools, ie, just 3% of the total.  

Last year, the total number of students who dropped out was 1.6 lakh, this year it has come down to 78000 students.

Under this phase of Gunotsav, it was found that while the excess teachers are 3579, the deficit is 5120.

In terms of district wise ranking, Goalpara district stood first, Nalbari 2nd and Darrang 3rd in this phase of Gunotsav.     

In all the three phases, a total of 30,11,885 students have participated from 48,963 schools.  

“One of the gains of this initiative has been that we have detected 20% absentee students in total,” said state education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press meet held in Guwahati on Tuesday, February 27.
