GUWAHATI: In a recent incident in the Mariampur area of Assam's Goalpara district, approximately 50 individuals, including men, women, and children, fell ill on Wednesday due to suspected food poisoning.
As per media reports, the victims had consumed fish during a feast, after which they began experiencing symptoms associated with food poisoning.
Presently, 30 individuals have been admitted to the Bikali Model Hospital, while an additional 20 are receiving treatment at Rangjuli Hospital in the Goalpara district.
According to media reports, several critically affected individuals were transported to Goalpara for urgent medical attention.
Authorities suspect that the fish served during the feast may have been the source of the poisoning, which has left two victims in critical condition, as stated by the media.
Speaking to G Plus, The Superintendent of Police of Goalpara district, VV Rakesh Reddy said, "We have received the information. The incident took place yesterday night at a private function where they ate food, after which they started experiencing food poisoning symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea. It is suspected the poisoning happened after consuming they consumed fish at the venue."
"Further enquiry is going on and we will soon get the report of what exactly happened," added the official.
