GUWAHATI: The supreme court is launching a software application through which people will be able to read judgements in English in their own respective vernacular language, according to a report by The Hindu.

The process to make the application live is ongoing and it might be launched in mid-July.

The app is somewhat like Google translate, and it will likely be launched in a single phase and cover “all vernacular languages.”

The app is the brainchild of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi who wanted to translate the court’s judgements into other languages so that it would benefit litigants, who after fighting their cases for a number of years are sometimes unable to read the judgements for their own cases as they cannot read English.

The app will not only translate the apex court judgements into Hindi and other languages, but it will also provide summaries of the apex court’s verdict.

Further, the court has also taken the help of High Courts across India to make the move a success.
