Supreme Court Summons Baba Ramdev In Contempt Case Against Patanjali Ayurved

 

GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court has summoned Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev to appear personally before it for failing to respond to a contempt notice regarding misleading advertisements by Patanjali Ayurved, which was co-founded by him.

The court has also summoned Patanjali Ayurved Managing Director Acharya Balkrishna along with Ramdev; the company is alleged to have violated Sections 3 and 4 of the Drugs and Remedies Act.

Earlier, the apex court criticised Patanjali Ayurved, stating that the entire nation has been deceived. It ordered Patanjali Ayurved to refrain from advertising or branding products for treating diseases until further notice.

Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah also warned the company and its executives against making any statements in the media, whether print or electronic, disparaging any system of medicine, as per their undertaking given on November 21 last year.

The bench remarked that the nation has been misled, questioning the government about its actions against Patanjali Ayurved for allegedly making false claims and misrepresentations in advertisements regarding the effectiveness of its medicines for curing various ailments.
