Students Staying in Govt Hostels to Get Rs 700/ month from February

GUWAHATI: Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that students staying in government hostels will get Rs.700 per month from February 2020.

It is to be mentioned that more than 20,000 students will be benefited by this move and the amount will directly be transferred to their respective bank accounts.

The minister had earlier announced about this scheme in the state budget of 2019-20.

“I would like to announce a subsidy of Rs. 700 per student per month to be paid for 10 months in a year, irrespective of their economic status, on the mess bills, for those students staying in the hostels of Government, or Provincialized Colleges and Universities,” Sarma had announced while presenting the budget.

“I hope this will reduce some of the anxieties confronting the parents,” he had added.
