STF Apprehends Prime Accused In Assam's Kokrajhar Under Operation Praghat

 

GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force (STF), Assam, in collaboration with Kokrajhar Police, achieved a breakthrough in its investigation into STF PS Case No. 21/2024 by apprehending the prime accused, Gazi Rahman on December 30.The operation, codenamed Praghat, marks a step towards justice in the ongoing case.

Earlier, two individuals Abdul Zaher Sheikh and Sabbir Mirdha were arrested for allegedly associated with the banned extremist groups Ansharullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent (AQIS) on December 24. A large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the hideout of one of the accused. 

The accused, identified as 35-year-old Gazi Rahman from Bhodeyaguri in Kokrajhar district, had been evading arrest for some time. According to officials, Rahman is a resident of Bhodeyaguri, under Kokrajhar Police Station. His father, Late Mahmad Ali Mondal, was also a resident of the same area.  

Rahman's apprehension was facilitated by coordination between the STF and Kokrajhar Police. Authorities have confirmed that necessary legal proceedings are being initiated in connection with the case, with further investigations underway to uncover additional details and linkages.  

An official statement from the STF underlined the importance of this arrest. “The apprehension of the prime accused demonstrates our commitment to ensuring justice. We will continue our efforts to bring all individuals associated with this case to book,” the statement read.  

Further developments in the case are expected as investigations proceed.
