Squash Talent Shines At 3rd Northeast & All Assam Inter-School Championships In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: The 3rd Northeast Squash Championship and the inaugural All Assam Inter-School Squash Championship, organised by the Assam Squash Rackets Association (ASRA) on November 9 and 10, 2024, concluded with resounding success at the squash courts in RG Baruah Sports Complex, Guwahati. The two-day event brought together top talents from across the region, showcasing a spirited competition and emerging winners in various age categories.

In the 3rd Northeast Squash Championship, Assam took a strong lead, with Ishaan Jain claiming the Men's Open title. The Women’s Open title went to Waikhom Lingjenthoibi Chanu from Manipur, with Adrika Dey from Assam finishing as the runner-up. Among the over-35 competitors, Meghalaya’s Aditya Puri clinched the top spot, while in the over-50 category, Tarun Nauni from Assam emerged as the champion.

The Team Event saw Assam dominate in both the men’s and women’s categories. The men’s team from Assam, featuring players like Sagnik Sarkar, Ishaan Jain, and Saransh Saini, secured the top position, outperforming the Services team. On the women’s side, Assam once again triumphed, with players such as Adrika Dey and Niharika Goswami contributing to the victory.

The All Assam Inter-School Squash Championship brought together young players from various schools, offering a glimpse of the next generation of squash talent in Assam. In the Boys’ Under-14 category, Sagnik Sarkar from the International School Guwahati secured first place, followed by Archan Amarun Bailung and Darshil Kalita from The Assam Valley School. Among the Girls’ Under-14 competitors, Monoshree Raut from Brooklyn Public School Guwahati clinched the top spot, with Nayanika Bhattacharjee from Delhi Public School, Numaligarh, coming in second.

In the Boys’ Under-19 division, Saransh Saini from International School Guwahati was crowned the champion, while Adrika Dey from The Assam Valley School took the top position in the Girls’ Under-17 category. The young players’ dedication and skill in both tournaments underscored the growing popularity of squash in the Northeast region.
