Speed up Majuli erosion protection work or face music: Sonowal to contractor

GUWAHATI: Irked by the slow pace of implementation of Majuli protection project, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal issued strong warning of taking legal action against the firm T.K. Engineering, if they fail to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.

Reviewing the progress of the project on Friday at the conference hall of Majuli Deputy Commissioner’s office, chief minister Sonowal said that the contractor organisation T.K. Engineering will have to face the music if they are unable to show satisfactory progress in implementing the project.

Notably, the project - which was allotted to T.K. Engineering on November 24 of the previous year - has a timeframe of 18 months which will expire on May, 2019. The project entails 27 kms long erosion protection work for a total cost of Rs 200 crore.

Directing T.K. Engineering to submit the action plan for project implementation to Brahmaputra Board, Sonowal instructed the Chairman of the Board Rajiv Yadav to strictly monitor the progress of the project.
