Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika Gets Inducted Into Assam Cabinet

GUWAHATI: Padma Hazarika, MLA of Sootea constituency in Assam, has been elevated to Cabinet rank at a meeting of the Assam Cabinet held on Wednesday, June 30.

Among other key decisions taken at the meeting, the State’s Information and Technology (IT) department has been instructed to set up mobile towers to enhance connectivity in rural areas of Assam, especially with the aim of facilitating online education of students.

The Assam Cabinet also finalised an earlier announcement to grant one-month compulsory annual leave for Police battalion personnel from the rank of Constable to Sub-Inspector. This will be applicable for all battalion personnel from Constable to SI ranks who stay in barracks without their families.

The mandate aims to lift the morale of such personnel by permitting them to visit their families. However, personnel living with families in the battalion quarters will be given 10 days of leave.

Further, the transportation commission paid to fair price shops and cooperative societies has been hiked from Rs. 100.10 to Rs.143 per quintal of rice under the National Food Security Act.

In a first, each of the 860 cooperative societies in Assam will be granted Rs 5 lakh per year for using godown and other resources. Further, a transportation contract for carrying commodities from Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns will be provided, preferably to the cooperatives.
