Snowman made out of Paper Cups in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Chetan Sharma, a resident of Guwahati has set up an art installation at Zoo road, near Guwahati Central, opposite Assam State Zoo.

He has created an approx. 8.5-ft tall snowman made entirely of paper cups. Sharma used 2000 cups to create this giant snowman.

“I wanted to make something that would catch the eyes of the people in Guwahati. I wanted it to be lit, glowing and vibrant. The reason I used paper cups was because it emits the rays of light and reflects it. I also wanted people to have something where they could pose and take pictures with the installation,” said Sharma.

He said that he chose to create a snowman as it invokes the feeling of Christmas in people and is relatable to all.

“I think a snowman is something that everyone has grown up with and we can immediately think of Christmas when looking at a snowman,” said Sharma.

It took him a total of 11 days to create his masterpiece, including the ideation and research phase. The whole installation is hand-made and was cut and spray painted by Sharma and a few of his juniors.

In addition to the snowman, he has also created a Christmas tree made out of hangers and a Christmas gown with a headgear. This is his art fourth installation. Earlier, he had made a huge japi, a 7 ft. football during the World Cup and a 6 ft. 360 degree lotus during Durga Puja and Diwali this year.

Sharma is a fashion designer who graduated from NIFT Kolkata and is currently working as a fashion stylist and visual merchandiser in Guwahati.
