GUWAHATI: Guwahati sees a massive influx of commuters during Durga Puja.
Most years, Guwahatians end up spending more time stuck in traffic jams than in visiting puja pandals.
However, this year, the scenario was completely different owing to the smooth traffic management.
It's the task of Guwahati Traffic Police to ensure that no roads are blocked during puja and this year, they've been rightly applauded for the same.
"I have personally experienced non-congested roads during evening hours in areas like Athgaon, Sarabhatti, etc which are generally over-crowded," expressed a resident of Athgaon.
In the same vein, a pandal-hopper told G Plus, "Guwahati Traffic Police is to be thanked for keeping the traffic moving with meticulous planning and execution."
Speaking to G Plus on the occasion of Dussehra, Prashant Saikia, DCP Traffic said, "I've received lots of appreciation for traffic management during puja and it gives me immense happiness to have ensured smooth traffic during puja days as well as during immersion."
He added that team spirit among policemen, good enforcement and cooperation from the public resulted in smooth traffic.
Saikia further informed G Plus that a total of over 120 cases of drunk driving were registered during the three days of puja and over 40 licenses have also been seized for suspension.
