Smoke detected in Guwahati-bound IndiGo flight, makes emergency landing at Kolkata

GUWAHATI: After smoke was reportedly detected from the plane's cargo hold, a Guwahati-bound IndiGo aircraft with 76 passengers on board made an emergency landing within a few minutes of take-off at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata. 

The pilot had informed the air traffic control (ATC) soon after the smoke alarm went off in the cockpit. According to AAI officials, all the passengers have been evacuated and are safe.

"The aircraft made a safe landing at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here at around 8.30 pm, 15 minutes after take-off," an official statement from the AAI officials said.

Earlier, a few days ago, a major air collision was averted on Thursday near Bangladesh between two Indigo flights which took off from Guwahati. One flight was bound to Kolkata from Guwahati while the other was going to Chennai from Guwahati.
