SI Exam Paper Leak: Crime Branch Seals PK Dutta's Hotels in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Crime Branch of Assam Police conducted raids at three hotels in Guwahati, owned by former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Prasanta Kumar Dutta. 


The raids were conducted at Hotel Bhargab Inn at Paltan Bazar, Guwahati, and two other Hotel Bhargav in Paltanbazar and Ganeshguri area on Sunday, September 27. The police thereafter “preserved the scene of crime for further investigation” so that no evidence may be tempered with. 


As per sources in the Crime Branch, the candidates were brought to these hotels owned by former deputy inspector general(DIG) of Assam Police PK Dutta for the secret exams and the payments for the Assam Police SI jobs were also made there.


PK Dutta has been absconding since Wednesday, September 23 after his involvement in the scam came to light.


Meanwhile, CID has arrested Anowar Ali, driver of the absconding PK Dutta, to interrogate about the whereabouts of the prime accused in the Assam Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam.


Further, police have arrested Jaidev Baruah from Tinsukia district of Upper Assam, who has been identified as PK Dutta's right-hand.
