GUWAHATI: Sharjeel Imam who has been under arrest and in Guwahati since February 20, has been tested coronavirus positive.
The student activist was arrested by the Assam Police for raising 'cut-off-Assam' slogans and has been lodged in Guwahati Central Jail since he was brought to the city in February last.
A team of Delhi Police Special Cell reached Guwahati on 17th July to take his custody and take him back to Delhi.

However, all police personnel along with Sharjeel Imam were screened for COVID-19 before his transfer.
While the officers tested negative, Imam tested positive.
As such his transfer to the national capital has been postponed and he will be transferred only after he is cured of the disease.
