Tourism minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at an event held at Assam Tourism House announced severance packages to former employees of Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok.
Packages worth Rs 31 lakhs, 31 lakhs, 21 lakhs and 13 lakhs were announced for Amitabh Sarma, Chanakya Kalita, Ranjit Sarma and KLD Goswami respectively.
Apart from these, 72 other workers will also be given severance packages due to the conversion of the hotel into the State Guest House.
A total of Rs 6 crores 30 lakhs was announced as severance package for the former employees.
One of the city's premier hospitality addresses, Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok, closed its doors permanently on September 1 as the Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited decided to shut down the property and build a state guest house in its place.
