Seven Dead, Several Children Injured in Blast at Religious School in Pakistan

An explosion at a religious school in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar has killed at least seven people and wounded 70 others, many of them children, police officials say.

The blast occurred at the Speen Jamaat mosque, which also serves as a religious school for local children, at 8:30 am local time (3:30 GMT) on Tuesday, as per a report published on Al Jazeera.

As per reports, the bombing happened while a cleric was delivering a lecture about the teachings of Islam at the main hall of the Jamia Zubairia madrassa.

Children and Maulavis (instructors) are among the victims as the blast took place when the classes were underway at the religious school.

The wounded were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, the city’s main government hospital. While seven persons have so far been declared dead, hospital authorities fear the death toll could climb further.
