Sensex jumps over 1400 points after exit poll predictions are out

GUWAHATI: Indian markets have jumped sharply on Monday (May 20) after several exit polls have forecasted a  comfortable win for BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. With the jump, the markets have posted their biggest one-day gain in 10 years.

The Sensex rose to 1,405.89 points or 3.71% to reclaim the 39,300 mark while Nifty surged to 414.85 points until the time of closing the markets.

It is to be mentioned that the rupee appreciated by 79 paise to 69.44 against the US dollar during the early trade hour on Monday.

The rupee opened at 70.36 the interbank forex market, and then gained further ground to touch 69.44 against the greenback, marking a gain of 79 paise.

Indiabulls Housing, IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports, SBI and Tata Motors were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Dr Reddy’s Labs, Zee Entertainment, Bajaj Auto, Tech Mahindra and Infosys.
