Section 144 imposed in parts of Guwahati

GUWAHATI: With the aim to take preventive measures and ensure peace in the city,  section 144 of the Code of Criminal Proceedings has been imposed in the Central police district of Guwahati.

In a notice dated June 14, Dharmendra Kumar Das, APS, DCP, Central police district has prohibited the assembly of more than five persons in any area under their jurisdiction. Carrying of arms/ammunition/explosive substances/weapons of any nature in public place has also been prohibited, along with gambling and use of loud speakers in public places. Further, the police have prohibited any kind of procession or shouting that might incite communal violence and shouting of slogans in public places.

"It has been made to appear to me that some specified and unspecified persons or groups of persons or organizations/associations are likely to disturb the normal functioning of offices, movement of public and flow of traffic in parts of Central police district, Guwahati. It is apprehended that such groups of persons are planning to carry out agitation/demonstration/shouting of slogans in parts of the Central police district which may cause breach of peace and public order and may cause disturbance/interruption of peaceful movement of public, traffic and also normal functioning of offices in above-mentioned area" stated a prohibitory order issued by the office of Central police district, Guwahati. 

Section 144 CrPC has also been imposed in West police district of Guwahati.
