GUWAHATI: Residents of a major part of East Guwahati constituency have been complaining of lack of water supply by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) for the past two days. The areas affected include Gandhi Basti, Pub Sarania, Ulubari, Nepali Mandir and Rehabari.

A resident of Pub Sarania informed G Plus, "We did not receive the regular water supply for the last two days. It is really getting difficult; the supply has been stopped without prior notice. We are buying water from private suppliers now."

G Plus took up the matter with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, seeking quick intervention.

Manoranjan Bharali, Superintendent Engineer of Water Supply, GMC said, "A major pipe supplying water from the Panbazar water plant to our Sarania reservoir was damaged two days back. It’s the longest pipeline in Guwahati, 18 inch mega pipe, and it was damaged near the Panbazar Fire Brigade office two days back."

"Guwahati Smart City Limited is laying pipelines across Guwahati. They should have been more careful, but damaged such a large pipe while working. We are repairing the damages and the work should be done by today. After that the Sarania reservoir can be refilled," he added.

Bharali assured that water supply will be restored by today evening.
