GUWAHATI: The Saraighat bridge will be closed again for a few days for application of a mastic layer on it.
The application process of the mastic layer usually takes 10-15 days. It is an asphalt layer that is applied on bridges to increase the endurance of dynamic stresses. It also ensures the stability of the bridge by providing permanent waterproofing.

The closing of the bridge is being done as the Northeast Frontier Railway had a discussion with officials from the Assam government.
It should be noted that it has not even been a month since the bridge reopened after repair work was conducted.
