GUWAHATI: Sambit Patra, BJP’s Northeast in-charge and senior leader met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday, February 12. The two leaders held discussions, though the outcome of the meeting remains undisclosed.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Karam Shyam asserted that there is “no constitutional crisis” following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on February 9. He expressed confidence that the ongoing leadership crisis would be resolved by the Centre with the support of legislators. Shyam made these remarks while visiting a hotel in Imphal to meet Sambit Patra.
When asked about the potential imposition of the President’s Rule in the state, Shyam responded, “I don’t know about the President’s Rule. I think the problem will be resolved by the Centre with the help of the legislators.” “ I think there is no constitutional crisis in Manipur,” he added.
Regarding the expiry of the six-month interval between two assembly sessions, he said, “Let’s see what happens.” When pressed on whether a new chief minister would be announced during the day, he declined to comment.
Earlier, Congress questioned the delay in convening the Manipur Assembly session on Tuesday, calling it a violation of the Constitution. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh accused the Governor of violating Article 174(1) by not summoning the session as mandated.
The session, initially scheduled to begin on February 10, was declared “null and void” by Manipur governor just hours after N Biren Singh’s resignation on Sunday.
