RTA Continues to Conduct Drive Against City Buses for 3rd Day

GUWAHATI: The Regional Transport Department (RTA) has continued drives against erring city buses for the third day. A team of 20 enforcement officials has been deployed to conduct these drives.

DTO (Enforcement) Bapan Kalita informed G Plus that around 25 buses have been seized of 14th February, seven e-challans issued and more than 14,500 compounding fine realized.

Meanwhile on February 13th 40 buses were seized and challan of over Rs. 32,000 realized.

Drives have been conducted specifically to check display plate of ‘Route No.’, ‘Route Permit No.’, ‘Police WhatsApp No.’, ‘Road Safety Slogan’, closing of doors of the buses while in motion, proper usage of entry and exit doors, re-canalization of route permit in different routes, etc, an official release said.

Four senior officials in the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Transport and Assistant Commissioner of Transport are supervising and monitoring the enforcement activities by the teams on the spot.

The drives are conducted in light of the directives issued by the Gauhati High Court in response to the PIL (72/2016) of Rita Das Mozumder.
