GUWAHATI: In a recent move aimed at enhancing the irrigation capabilities of the state, the Assam Cabinet has given its approval for securing a substantial loan of ₹271.59 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
This financial allocation will be channelled into irrigation projects sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF-XXIX). The ambitious initiative encompasses 54 Minor Irrigation Projects spanning 21 districts across Assam, with the overarching goal of substantially increasing crop production and ensuring year-round water supply to agricultural fields.
One of the primary objectives of these projects is to ensure round-the-year water supply to agricultural fields. This will mitigate the impact of seasonal variations and contribute to the sustainable growth of the agricultural sector in Assam.
