GUWAHATI: The Union Cabinet has approved Rs. 22,000 crore for the expansion of Numaligarh Refinery. This move will increase the production of the refinery from the current 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA (million tonne per annum).

The additional required crude oil will come from Paradip port through a pipeline.

Numaligarh Refinery was set up in 1999 following the Assam Accord and the majority share (61.65%) is held by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL).
