Rs. 14 lakh seized from Congress leader's hotel room in Nagaon

GUWAHATI: Cash amounting over Rs. 14 lakh was seized from a hotel room in Nagaon, Haiborgaon area ahead of the 2nd phase of Lok Sabha polls.

The seizure was made during a joint raid by Nagaon Police, Income Tax cell and flying squad officails .

Authorities have nabbed three persons in connection with the case who have been identified as Sakil Akhtar, Jiten Goswami and Arindam Kakoty. However, the trio have been bailed out.

Based on preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that the hotel room was booked by a senior Congress leader and the trio were allegedly close aides of Congress leaders in Nagaon. 

Reacting to the incident, Congress nominee Pradyut Bordoloi said that the money was meant for Congress’s polling agents. The money is valid and all the necessary documentation has been done for it. It’s a conspiracy to defame Congress. 

Nagaon will go to the polls on April 18.
